Research

The IPATIMUP presents as one of the goals of its activity, the research in Oncology area (cancer and precancerous damages in the stomach, intestines, thyroid, breast and blood) and of the Population and Forensic Genetics.

 

The IPATIMUP has 8 research groups that totalize nearly 215 persons between researchers, teaching professionals and trainee students.

 

The IPATIMUP's scientific production compares itself favorably with the one of foreign institutions from the same type according to the stomach and thyroid cancer research.

 

The IPATIMUP's researchers are co-authors of several molecular Oncology books published in the last years and members of Editorial Councils of international Scientific Magazines.

 

IPATIMUP's researchers play functions in the following international institutions: European Pathology Society (Presidency), European Pathology School, European Cellular Pathology Training, European Cancer Prevention Association, European Gastrointestinal Pathology Clubs, Endocrinal Pathology and Citopathology (Presidency), International Citopathology Society, Association of Pathological Anatomy and Chirurgical Pathology Directorates (USA).

 

The IPATIMUP has in course or approved, research projects financed by the FCT Foundation for the Science and Technology, by the National Council against Smoking, by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, by the FLAD, Luso-American Foundation to the Development, by pharmaceutical industry companies, foreign funders agencies and by the Innovation Agency.

 

The IPATIMUP and or its researchers have collaboration protocols with the CNIO National Center of Oncologic Research (Madrid), the Cancer Institute of Norway and the following Universities: Amsterdam, Ghent, Kansas, Omaha, Santiago de Compostela, Monique Technique and Zhengzhou (China).
