Personnel responsible by Animal Model Facilities management , monitoring and animal manipulation for scientific research purposes, have to be trained and certified by FELASA (“Federation of European Laboratory Animal Science Associations”), by frequency of graduation or post-graduation courses in Animal Science. In Portugal the certification is conceded by “DGV – Direcção Geral de Veterinária” after frequency in courses taught in Portuguese Institutions, under the rules established by the European Council (Convention ETS 123, article 26)  and European Union (Directive 86/609/EEC, article 14), available online in the website www.felasa.org.
