My name is Rita Matos and I am a PhD in Pathology and Molecular Genetics.
After a first degree in Biochemistry and a Master in Molecular and Cellular Biology, I started a fellowship in the Glycobiology in Cancer group at i3S. Here, I participate in multiple projects, including national and international collaborations, focused on the role of glycans in human pathologies, namely on gastric cancer and infectious diseases (specifically Mycobacterium tuberculosis).
In 2017, I began my PhD which was focused on the pathogenesis of gastric non-Helicobacter pylori Helicobacter species in humans, acquisition of antibiotic resistance and efficacy of current eradication treatment. This was a result from a strict collaboration between i3S, Centro Hospitalar Universitário São João and Ghent University- Belgium.
Besides this, I was a member of the i3S PhD Students Representatives (2020/2021) and a member of the Monitoring Comission of my PhD Programme (2018-2021).
