Short CV
Rui Ferreira graduated in Biology in July 2006 at the University of Aveiro. During the last year of graduation he did a training programme for six months at Centre for Protein Engineering, University of Liège, in frame of the Leonardo Da Vinci programme (European Commission). In the second semester of 2006 he joined the research team that studies Helicobacter pylori infection at Ipatimup. In December 2012, he got his PhD at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, in the Doctoral Programme in Biomedicine, and in collaboration with Ipatimup, under the supervision of Céu Figueiredo. Currently, Rui Ferreira holds a post-doctoral fellowship at Ipatimup. Rui Ferreira is co-author of 10 papers and of 26 abstracts published in peer-reviewed international journals.

Rui Ferreira’s main research focus is Helicobacter pylori infection and gastric carcinoma development. He is particularly interest in the characterization of H. pylori virulence-associated genotypes that can be used to define high-risk patients. Additionally, he is interested in the characterization of the gastric microbiota that grows in the stomach as the result of the changes in gastric physiology induced by H. pylori infection.
